Act Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace

Some of my readers have asked recently why my posts come in bursts and why they seem to have tapered off in recent months. The answer is simple. Actions speak louder than words. I have markedly stepped up my activities that, for lack of a simpler description, consist of championing the “Let’s Go Brandon” movement. And if you don’t know what that slogan means, you have your head in the sand and should pull it out and look it up. It’s not just an anti-administration motivation that drives me. It’s the recognition that despite my reservations, despite the impingement on my time and energy, I must actually DO something, not just talk about it.

So I have. I have worked to expand my network of like-minded people also disgusted by what they see transpiring before their eyes. We meet regularly and discuss the atrocities of the day and what our extended networks are telling us about leftist overreach and right-minded push back. We talk about contingency plans. We speak in public settings (e.g. in bars, restaurants, at the grocery store) openly and unabashedly about the toxic drivel coming out of the Biden administration, the lies, deceit, misinformation of the main stream media, and we openly applaud those who sport patriotic tee shirts and hats.

And here’s something I’ve learned. As angry as I am about the Democrat daily atrocities, I’ve found that the Democrats who surround me respond better to subtle encouragement rather than overt condemnation. As much as I’d like to grab them by the neck and rub their noses in the excrement they’ve left all over the ground, I’ve found a better formula, one that doesn’t corner and confront them, but that gives them an escape route.

For example, the other day I was deployed as a member of our community emergency response team and as we worked on setting up our equipment I overheard one of the members say something about attending a Democrat meeting of one sort or another. As the conversation ended and the Democrat and I came in close proximity to one another, I said to him, “Wow Bob, I would have never pegged you for a Democrat.” His expression was priceless. It was clear he was embarrassed to have been outed!

My statement was, of course, both a compliment as well as a dig. I acknowledged he was a good guy, with smarts and skills and organizational ability, while also pointing out my surprise that anyone possessing these attributes could be a Democrat!

I’m encouraged by the fact that there are more and more traditionalist/conservative blogs, videos and other forms of media published every day. As I’ve often stated, there are many who’s ability to articulate the outrage we all feel far surpasses my own, and it’s clear, reading or viewing their work, that we all have similar sentiments. Thus, I’ve frequently begun a post only to find that someone has already covered what I want to say, and far better than I could.

I’m tempted, and may in fact act on this, to add a curation feature to GrumpsReport. Curation, by the way, is one of those terms, usually applied to the selection of displays in a museum, that the tech world has co-opted and abused. But its apt. What I’m suggesting is the establishment of a section with links to specific articles, videos, tweets, etc. that are particularly intriguing, thought-provoking or bile-inducing. Thus, my readers will have a sense of what I’m made up of.  As we all know, “we are what we consume”, and that goes for what we read, watch and listen to as well.

In the meantime, please understand that the fewer hours I spend writing the more I spend actually doing something about the stuff I’m so pissed off about!

I hope you’ll join me in DOING SOMETHING. Speak up, act out, join with, and by all means, help the unfortunate (I’m being extremely generous) Democrats and independents who think that everything’s just swell to wake up, open their eyes, filter out the bs they’re consuming and start thinking with their heads instead of other parts of their anatomies.

Perception, Reality and Alternative Reality

I’m going to be uncharacteristically charitable and start with the premise that the Left (choak) and the Right truly believe in their positions, both ideological and political. Further, I’m going to argue that people’s behavior is a function of their perception, that perception is reality and perception derives from experience. In other words, I’m going to suggest that because of their life experience peoples’ reality is that everything that’s happening in our country is, in the case of the Left, just peachy keen and in the case of the Right, diabolical and destructive. And both honestly and sincerely believe their views of the world are correct.

Here’s the well-known exercise that demonstrates what I’m talking about with respect to perception. Look at the following picture:

You see a young woman.

Now look at this picture.

You see an old hag.

Now, the way this experiment actually works, an audience is divided in two and each half is shown ONLY one or the other picture. This is the EXPERIENCE.

The entire audience is then shown the following picture.

The argument that ensues is that one half of the audience can only see a young woman and the other an old hag in the composite picture.

I submit the Right has a life experience that is diametrically opposed to that of the Left. The Right has grown up and experienced the good in tradition, virtue, self-determination, self-reliance, hard work, meritocracy, limited government, strong national defense, preservation of life, and so on. The Left has grown up seeing big government, authority, the State, collectivism, globalism, atheism, self-indulgence, insolence, indolence, the means justify the ends, pleasure over pain, narcissism, and so on.

How do these experiences happen?

For some, it is actual, physical experience. The traditionalist/conservative who grew up in a happy home, was taught and earned the rewards of hard work, etc. inevitably sees the world one way. The Leftist who was raised in a broken home, or in a so-called ‘alternative lifestyle’, taught throughout his or her life that the world was an oppressive place filled with people out to get them, that they are entitled to the fruits of ALL labor, taught to follow their heart strings rather than their heads; they see the world the opposite way just as the two halves of the audience are certain they see either the young woman or the old hag in the third picture above.

Since the advent of the Internet, for many experience is vicarious. By that I mean that their lives have been impacted not by actual experience, but by what they’ve heard from people with loud and popular voices (actors, actresses, politicians, etc.), read in the paper, seen on television, heard on the radio, absorbed from clicking on social media. This “experience” is just as impactful as real experience. Witness, for example, the impact teachers preaching Critical Race Theory or pushing the LGBTQ deviance and similar ideologies is having on our children. The kids are repeating things at the dinner table that are revolting and abhorrent to traditional parents. But the kids’ “experience” is coloring what they see and believe, and day by day it is becoming reality to them. For example, see: https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/warner-media-cartoons-woke/2021/09/15/id/1036621/. For the record, I’m revolted and repulsed by this blatant indoctrination.

It’s dismissed as silly that “it’s the Media’s fault.” BUT in large part, IT IS! The ‘Media’ creates what I’ll call “substitute” experience for many people, perhaps even most people, and thus determines both perception and reality. Because the Media preys on the baser instincts of human nature such as approbation and validation, sex, peer pressure, gluttony, pleasure, leisure, the herd/lemming instinct, etc. and generates revenues and profits from it, it creates a reality that feeds on itself and grows. By feeding on itself I’m suggesting that those who control and direct the media are themselves, addicted to and invested in the memes and reality they’ve created. And like any addiction, the lives they concoct get more and more perverse and masochistic until the people who believe them to be reality blow up, for example, by suicide or drug overdose. Think about all the violence, destruction, homicides, suicides, that so many have actually or vicariously experienced and how it escalates. Think about teen character destruction and the pandemic of them taking their own lives, of anger stemming from depression and lack of self-worth resulting in gang violence, drug abuse, sex trafficking. All of this can be attributed to the perceptions created by the Media and those who control it. And so long as revenues and profits persist, so too will the junk reality being put out by the Media.

The antidote?

Change perception and we change reality. We can’t just eliminate or eradicate evil from our lives. It has to be replaced by stuff that appeals to those baser instincts of human nature in a productive, positive way. An extremely tall order. Many conservative/traditionalist media outfits have tried and God bless ’em, continue to try. There seems to be some evidence that the tide is turning, but we have a long way to go!

The assault by the predominantly Leftist Media and the grip Leftist politicians now have on the minds and hearts of approximately half of our population is so strong that it can’t be broken by fiat or legislation. Overturning Roe v. Wade, for example, will not end abortion. It will just drive it underground. Counter the “my body my decision” position with enough “life begins at conception and is precious” using the same techniques and production values that the Left uses to push its agenda and we might have a chance of changing reality for so many who have been indoctrinated and brainwashed by the Left that abortion is just a procedure used in lieu of contraception or continence.

As I’ve noted many times before, we need new heroes. We need attractive, articulate, persuasive, actors, actresses, politicians, leaders who can inspire and persuade those who believe their Leftist reality is ok that there is a better, happier and more satisfying reality than what they’re experiencing.

Many on the Left are seeing where things are heading and at least starting to scratch their heads. Unfortunately, the tsunami of Leftist reality is so strong and so pervasive in our society today, the peer pressure so great, that it’s a tough war. Many of my generation are giving up and suggesting that “it’s their world now.” I, however, feel it a responsibility and duty to try to move the two generations behind me to a course that thousands of years of history and REAL experience has taught is better than the one society is currently following.

We’ll never reverse the decline to destruction of our civilization unless we can change hearts and minds. For whatever time I have left on this planet, I will keep trying.

Taking Stock of Where We Are

Ok, it’s been a little over a month now and as I predicted, the damage being done by the Left is already starting to take its toll. Our energy independence has already been damaged and gas prices are rising quickly, The Democrats are bending over backwards to hug the Iranians. They’ve rejoined the farcical Paris Climate Accords. There’s a bill just passed by the House that will encourage boys to invade the girls’ bath and changing rooms and win all the track and field awards. Everything GOOD about the last four years is being deliberately undermined. Why?…to try to erase/cancel anything and everything about Trump and permanently banish him from politics and the Earth!

Is it just me, or does this appear to be the most childish, petulant, unhinged and tantrum-throwing behavior ever exhibited by human beings…grown-ups (not adults and not children) you’ve ever witnessed? I wish I could draw…I’d have two scenes in the cartoon I have in mind. In the first Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff and the rest of the Cabal are lying on the floor in a circle stamping their feet and fists and screaming, “Hillary should have been President! He stole the presidency from her.” In the second they’re all standing, jumping up and down screaming, “We showed them! We won!”

I think a third scene is needed. The same Cabal is sitting around a table, this time with the addition of people like Soros, Gates, Zuckerberg, Kerry, etc. Kamala Harris is there, of course, and Susan Rice is whispering in her ear saying, “Now, let’s do anything and everything we must to ensure we have power permanently in our hands: we’ll open the borders and give the illegals voting rights; we’ll demand compliance with draconian identity and “protection” regulations and statutes like mandatory vaccinations and mask wearing that will subjugate the peons and make them bend to our will. In short order they won’t be able to shop for groceries without an approved identity card! We’ll reward the homosexuals, transvestites and transgender ‘dysphoriacs’ so we can show how woke we are and continue the brainwashing we’ve been engaged in since the 60’s. We’ll push the military and intelligence community into accepting, no, celebrating sexual deviance and put leaders in place who will kowtow to us. Oh, and we’ll take away people’s ability to defend themselves by scrapping the 2nd Amendment. Don’t worry Ms. Vice President, as you know, Joe isn’t going to last for long and YOU will soon be our first woman (.sic), er gender-neutral, President.”

The tragedy of the above scenario is that it isn’t Orwellian fiction. It’s happening, right before our eyes and right here in River City (1)! The lunatics are indeed running the asylum, and the adults are chasing around after them as if they were herding cats or trying to catch a swarm of crickets. The Right is desperately trying to preserve traditional norms in politics and government. We are trying to act dignified and mature while the idiots on the Left don’t give a damn anymore who they offend, who they hurt…they don’t even acknowledge the United States as a sovereign, constitutional republic anymore! They say anything, do anything and with the endorsement and unbridled assistance of Big Tech and the media, will continue with their depravity and self-destructive, puerile antics until one of two things happen. Either: a) the People successfully revolt and cause the idiots to suffer the consequences of their idiocy (e.g. Gavin Newsome and Andrew Cuomo getting politically lynched) or b) enough anger and disgust builds up that the People, witnessing their impotence in the face of razor-wire protected government spewing forth diktats against their best interests, realize that collectively they have the power to root out and defeat the Leftists. The secession movements get traction, or some people get so pissed off that they REALLY incite armed rebellion and insurrection!

Both of the above are already happening, and this may not end well. So, in the meantime, getting prepared for not just temporary but long term utility interruptions, diminishing our reliance on tech and finding and supporting alternative sources of news and opinion are just some of the things we ought to be thinking about.

It’s said that “We are what we read.” Well, we also need to cleave to the voices we agree with! Forget the honest, liberal notion that we should welcome all opinions and views and subject everything, transparently, to honest debate. BS! If you think an honest debate can be had with domestic terrorists like the Democrat Party hyena leadership, I say, “Open your eyes…you’re sadly deluded!” Instead, gain strength and fighting words from those who can “say it better than we.”

A lot of people say, “That’s crazy! Reading and listening to conservative media is as bad as what the Left is doing listening to the mainstream demagogues and sycophants.” “It’s just as bad to live in the Right -wing bubble as it is to live in the Leftist one!”

I disagree. I’m discriminating and smart enough, thank you, to separate conspiracy myths and right-wing click bait from conservative-leaning and neutral news reporting and opinion. And I’m a skeptic of ALL media if I smell that what I’m reading is nothing more than sensationalism meant to lead the authors to “The Money”!

So, I constantly review and alter my newsfeed diet. Here is what I’m reading/viewing now:

The Epoch Times
Gateway Pundit
The Liberty Daily
Bongino Report
Just the News
Zero Hedge
Town Hall
American Thinker
Newsmax
Free Republic
The Daily Wire
Mike Huckabee.com
The Conservative Treehouse
Straight Line Logic
Liberty Nation News
Whatfinger
Love Breeds Accountability
World News Daily
Redstate
Jonathan Turley
Mark Levin

You’ll notice Fox News isn’t on the list. Since Rupert turned over management to his son(s), their “follow the money” pursuit has caused them to abandon their original traditional/conservative roots. The Right personalities and pundits who remain, like Tucker Carlson, Maria Bartiromo, etc. will eventually abandon the sinking ship and move to new, alternative platforms (or, like Lou Dobbs, will be cancelled).

You’ll also notice that I no longer have the Wall Street Journal on my list. The Journal, which was a mainstay of my diet for over 40 years, I’ve come to realize with age and wisdom is exclusively dedicated to the “Follow the Money” theme. In their case, of course, Money IS the topic and to have the worship and pursuit of money, even “clean” money as a constant in my diet seems misplaced now.

So I encourage my readers to be wise, be skeptical, be careful, be patient, thoughtful. Rededicate yourselves to Right principles. Live them. Do not abide fools…some of your friends may simply have to cease being your friends.

Be tolerant and patient with family members still under the spell of the little screens two inches from their noses… who lack wisdom, are filled with Leftist doctrine because they haven’t the exposure to Right principles, who lack courage to throw the BS flag and go along to get along. Love them despite their profligacy, sheepishness and naivete. It’s very easy to be angered when we hear nonsense coming out of their mouths with so much conviction. It often takes tremendous restraint to calmly, in our “indoor voices” try to exorcise the cancer they’ve been infected with.

Trying times.

Never give up. Never, never, give up.

Observations on Last Night’s ‘Debate’

So Trump has been compelled to move from counter-puncher to puncher, from defense to offense. He really has no choice. The stakes are too high. Inarticulate and as much of a blunt object as he is, his principles are right, his cause just, and the fight real.

I have to admit that If I had been vilified, excoriated, politically assaulted and lied about continuously for four years I too would have thrown the BS flag at the first sign of repeated falsehoods, distortions, accusations and deflections. One of the Left’s most cherished tactics is to saturate the air with so much crap that there’s not enough time to respond to it all. They just throw stuff against the wall with such force and variety that it overwhelms any possible response, particularly if it is delivered in one unending stream for a full two minutes. Even using shorthand, the list of defensive replies is too long to state in the subsequent two minutes. So Trump could not have waited a full two minutes for the onslaught to end before unpacking and responding to all the lies and distortions coming from Biden’s mouth. And it would be impossible for any rational comeback to be formulated and delivered in the subsequent two minutes. So Trump did Trump. He threw the bs flag as each lie and distortion left Biden’s mouth, not waiting for the verbal diarrhea to stop.

Last night was an embarrassment for our nation. I wish the civility and diction exhibited in the Reagan-Mondale, or better, the Lincoln-Douglas debates could have had been present. The Chinese, Russians, Venezuelans, Iranians, Palestinians all loved what they saw and no doubt their media will be filled today with “see, we told you so’s” as THEY vilify our constitutional republic form of government. I don’t care. The fact that these two men could stand there and speak they way they did is in and of itself worth defending.

But it’s not Trump who brought our politics into the gutter, but the left who have “resisted” and tried to “fundamentally transform” our nation, barring NOTHING to gain power. Trump has always been a counter-puncher. At this moment, he MUST go on the offensive if he is to save this country from the leftist onslaught. Is it all disgusting? Yes, but the Democrats are the ones who made it so and now that it is a street fight for the soul of our country, thank God there’s a street thug like Trump who will stand up for it.

Despicable Them

With apologies to the producers and directors of the cartoon movie hit “Despicable Me”, the label “Despicable Them” aptly applies to politicians in general, but to Leftist politicians in particular. As always, it’s a question of degree. The degree to which the Democrat leadership (note I say leadership, not ALL Democrats) exhibits despicable behavior and spews despicable rhetoric dwarfs, as Jupiter dwarfs the Earth, anything the Republican leadership has done or said.

Examples abound but probably the best one is that of Nancy Pelosi ceremoniously ripping the State of the Union speech in half and claiming it was all lies. As regards despicable rhetoric: Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, Bill deBlasio, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, Linda Sarsour…the list of those with verbal diarrhea goes on and on. Every time any of these people open their mouths, nothing but despicable falsehoods and bile emerge.

How do they get away with this? Edmund Burke had the answer: The Fourth Estate. In Thomas Carlyle’s book On Heroes and Hero Worship he attributes to Burke: “Burke said there were Three Estates in Parliament; but, in the Reporters’ Gallery yonder, there sat a Fourth Estate more important far than they all.”[i] He was of course referring to the Press, or in today’s language, the “Media”.

The term “fourth estate” and “fourth branch” are both used to describe what used to be journalism, which clearly doesn’t exist anymore. Someone I know with a degree in Journalism from Columbia University, arguably the pre-eminent journalism school in the country, grudgingly admits that the principles taught there are violated continuously.

Fourth Estate as a term is meant to emphasize the independence of the Media, while the related term “Fourth Branch” suggests the Media is an extension of the government. In my opinion, it’s hardly the latter, but the Media’s ability to influence (i.e. brainwash) inattentive or non-critical-thinking minds is obvious. Abandonment of journalistic principles such as three-source corroboration or the vetting of sources to ensure reliability, coupled with the power of the internet to broadcast the most salacious lies and twisted arguments, has fostered an environment where despicable behavior and rhetoric thrives.

Given that the professional Media is predominantly Leftist, as are the indolent with too much time on their hands to do anything productive but tweet and post (I hasten to defend that the reason I have the time is that I’m retired after working hard for fifty years), the Left are provided with overwhelming covering fire. The saturated with Leftist garbage airwaves thus leave little room for any reasonable debate or reflection. That same cover gives impunity to the most despicable, even immoral Leftist behavior in both the commercial as well as political realms.

The Left is guilty too of what I think is one of the most despicable behaviors: Projection. Albeit in its weak-mindedness much of the Left doesn’t even see it, or its hypocrisy, it’s axiomatic that if they are whining about something, accusing the Right of something, falsely claiming credit for or denying culpability for something, it is precisely what they are guilty of. Just today Chuck Schumer sent a letter decrying Attorney General William Barr’s throwing of the BS flag on the Roger Stone sentencing. Said the spotlight-hog/grandstander/demagogue Schumer: “This situation has all the indicia of improper political interference in a criminal prosecution.” Sure, and the Left has NEVER improperly interfered in a criminal prosecution…Schumer’s statement is stupid as the President and Attorney General are empowered to intervene ex officio, and the public knows damn well the prosecutors are piling on a Trump ally. (But put a microphone and a spotlight within a hundred miles of Schumer and he will RUN to it!).

Projection.

Thank God we now have pro-justice leaders like Barr who are willing to wade into the Swamp with a flame-thrower to destroy the truly despicable, poisonous rot of the Left that has festered for so many years.

Nationalism vs. Globalism

On a Sunday morning sipping coffee and listening to some peaceful music rather than a blaring shout show on tv, I reflected on the Left’s banal vituperations against ‘nationalists’ and ‘nationalism’. As usual, they have hijacked words and language to warp meaning and seek to paint Traditionalists as negatively as possible.

Thomas Madison, in an article penned yesterday describing the interaction between presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard and ignorant hyper-hag Joy Behar on “The View”, described how Gabbard schooled Behar “on the definition of “nationalist,” a word synonymous with “patriot.”

Madison explained, “The term “white nationalist” has been hijacked by liberal Democrats, beginning in Charlottesville, where the anti-American left began its campaign to make the term synonymous with “white supremacist,” made clear by their continued talking point, citing “white nationalist” and “white supremacist,” in the same sentence. The narrative has been pushed by liberal liars from Barack Hussein to congressional Democrats to the partisan talking heads in the liberal mainstream media, so that today all leftists believe that a “white nationalist” is a “white supremacist” when actually, a white nationalist is a patriot who happens to be white. There are white nationalists, black nationalists, Asian nationalists, and Latino nationalists, American patriots all. But, let’s not allow the truth to interfere with a good liberal smear narrative.”

Nationalism, above all, refers to a belief that individuals and their communities, as well as the nation as a whole, must have sovereignty.[1] I often point out that one of the big differences between the people of England and the people of America is that in England The People are SUBJECTS. In America, The People are CITIZENS. Nationalism is a belief in self-governance by CITIZENS. It is a belief in freedom to set policies and enact laws for ourselves, not subject ourselves to laws made by elitist, often unelected bureaucrats in another country (e.g. Brussels and the European “Union”). The latter is a philosophy of the “Globalists”, an insidious scheme to force winners to provide for losers, to advance the Marxist philosophy: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”

Nationalists oppose policies such as open borders, mass migration, and forming international organizations that have as their end goal one-world government. Nationalists thus also support policies such as building border walls and maintaining border security.

Nationalism, or Patriotism therefore, is a sense of pride in one’s country. It’s the father of the phrases “My country do or die” or “America: Love it or Leave It”. It’s what’s behind the chants of “U.S.A., U.S.A.” at rallies. It’s about citizens all over the country flying American flags on their houses. Of course the Left, wanting to “fundamentally transform” America, condemns these expressions and actions as sinister: xenophobic, racist, etc.

Globalism, on the other hand, refers to the authoritarian desire for a “one world” view that rejects the role of sovereign nations in protecting distinctive national values. Globalism is anti-American in encouraging Americans to adopt a “world view” rather than an “American view.” The ultimate goal of globalism is the eventual unification of humanity under a one-world government.

Globalists oppose nationalism, national sovereignty, and self-governance. Instead, they favor open borders, free trade, H-1B visas, interventionism, foreign aid, and changing the U.S. Constitution. They oppose strong border security and the building of border walls.

Leftists support globalism because it leads to centralized power, thereby providing them with an easier way to gain control. Leftists can more easily persuade a handful of people in centralized government to rule in their favor than convince everyone of their agenda in a decentralized form of government.

I recall saying to myself just before the 2016 election when I like so many other traditionalists expected Hillary to win, “Only a cataclysmic event like another 9-11 or a world war, God forbid, will force America to halt its slide down the slippery slope to ruin and turn back to traditional values that would allow us to begin the long and difficult climb back up”. The jury is still out but Trump may have been that cataclysmic event. His views on Nationalism and Patriotism, while crassly rather than inspiringly articulated, reflect what the majority of Americans, I believe, feel and believe about our country.

The shrill and cackling voice of the Left (e.g. Joy Behar) has so polluted the airwaves that it’s sometimes difficult to see the forest, but in my more hopeful moments I sense we might be nearing the bottom of the slippery slope and are poised to start the long climb back up.

Considering Homeschooling

The Leftist indoctrination and brainwashing of our children has intensified to the point where parents who love them and care about our Nation’s future should seriously consider homeschooling, private or parochial schools. Not every family can afford private or parochial schools, however, so homeschooling may be the only realistic alternative.

Making the decision and committing to homeschooling would represent a tectonic shift in a family’s life to say the least. Dual incomes and $1000 iPhones has replaced living within our means, the traditional norm of father providing for the family, mother tending the hearth and nurturing the children, and the schools educating and preparing our youth to become productive achievers in our society.

Homeschooling would decidedly alter the current paradigm. Your taxes would still be paying for those teacher retirement benefits (largely), your income would drop and costs will rise, but it may be the only way to counteract the destructive ideology that has infused the curriculum and that is the real driving force tearing our country apart and causing our country’s decline.

I’ve only begun to research this topic, but virtually everything I read about the practice, in terms of preparing children for the world they face and equipping them with the tools they will need to survive in their future, is positive, even laudatory.

Mom usually takes on the homeschooling challenge and not all of our daughters and daughters-in-law are either educationally or emotionally able to do so. But for those who are, though it may mean abandoning or putting their careers on hold and running a different race than the one called “keeping up with the Jones”, it could be the most rewarding and fulfilling occupation of their lives. I don’t think it’s an overstatement to suggest that a generation of well-taught-through-homeschooling or private schooled kids could save the future of America.

One of the websites I found to be a useful introduction and guide to homeschooling is Mary Ann Kelley’s The Home School Mom. It lists many of the benefits of homeschooling, among them:

Academic flexibility. Homeschooling can work whether a child is ahead, behind, strong-willed, creative, challenging, quiet, gifted, or active.

Meeting current needs now. You can prioritize a child’s mental, emotional, behavioral, and physical health.

Meaningful learning. Avoid teaching to the test, testing mania in general, and arbitrary minimal standards.

Foster less peer dependence. Less early exposure to drugs, alcohol, sexual activity, and bullying.

Build a sense of safety. Parents can take their own steps to keep their children physically safe, and children can feel secure. (Grumps note: this also means safety from indoctrination and brainwashing!)

The full description of benefits can be found here.

I might add that taking on the responsibility for educating one’s children would of course force parents to become more educated themselves, and lifelong learning for us adults is a good thing too!

The education lobby will weep, wail and gnash their teeth, of course, and as the homeschooling trend continues to accelerate the assault by the Leftist-infused teacher’s unions will be ferocious. But consider these facts taken from research done by Brian D. Ray, Ph.D of the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI) and published in January of this year:

  • “There are over 2.3 million homeschool students in the United States. That is, there were an estimated 2.3 million in spring 2016, and this was up from one estimate of about 2 million home-educated children (in grades K to 12) during the spring of 2010 in the United States. It appears the homeschool population is continuing to grow at an estimated 2% to 8% per annum over the past few years.”
  • “The home-educated typically score 15 to 30 percentile points above public school students on standardized academic achievement tests.”

As I wrote earlier, I’ve barely scratched the surface of this subject, but as a grandfather increasingly worried about my kids’ and grandkids’ future, as well as the future of America , I urge everyone to seriously consider abandoning the current educational rat race and provide the second most important thing (love comes first!) parents can provide their children: a sound education.

“When the Left Snatches our Kids” – Verbatim Repost of an Exceptional (!) Article

I pray it is not too late. I pray there are still places in our country where traditional values still prevail. But the other day I read an article in American Thinker: “When the Left Snatches our Kids” by Sally Zelikovsky, to whom all credit is due, that so closely reflects my fears that I’m going to “retweet it”, i.e. reproduce it in full. It is precisely the kind of alarm I’ve been trying to raise for my own children and grandchildren. It isn’t so much prescriptive as a call to arms. It succinctly rifles to the crux of all that’s going wrong with our society.

While I’ve been careful to distinguish between Conservative and Traditional in my writings, one could do a cut and paste, replacing the word Traditional with Conservative in the article and it would remain spot on. The italics are mine.

I am skeptical that our efforts as conservative parents to produce conservative offspring will materialize.  Even with the best of intentions, the odds are not in our favor to successfully counter the Democrat-Media Complex, the educational system, and pop culture. That doesn’t mean there aren’t success stories (some in my own family), but I hear more about the failure and the disaffection it engenders in conservative families.

Conservative parents have learned the hard way that how your kids turn out depends on a host of factors that, at some point during the maturation process, are way beyond our control — friends, personal experiences, a particular book or documentary, brain chemistry, friends, a teacher/professor/boss, personality, a romantic relationship, college activities, pop culture, hobbies, and…friends.  Usually, it’s not one but an amalgamation of several factors and presto chango!  The kid who was once the lone conservative arguing at the lunch table, now thinks David Hogg and AOC are bitchin’.

We see them everywhere — the emaciated college-age vegans working at Starbucks, hysterical young girls pounding on Supreme Court doors, attractive anti-Semites leading the charge in Congress.  I’m sure some of them had conservative upbringings — you cannot assume they were all raised by liberals.  Yet, in her reporting about out-of-control liberal college students some time ago, I heard Laura Ingraham link their behavior to their upbringing.  Only a parent whose children hadn’t yet attended high school could make such an absurd connection.  We can try but we cannot guarantee what our children will believe.

Once again, I find myself referencing Red Scare movies like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It resonates.  We have to be vigilant, stay informed, understand the arguments of the other side and how to combat them.  If we don’t, eventually the pods take us over.  I graduated high school a Reagan Republican whose political arguments were admittedly my Dad’s.  When I arrived at a competitive college filled with smart, often private-school educated Merit scholars, I lost every political debate. I just didn’t have the breadth of information and understanding of history to counter their arguments.  Thus, I graduated college…a Democrat.  In time, I fell back on those critical thinking skills my parents instilled in me.  A desire to understand more as I graduated from law school and entered the work force, led me to self-educate and, eventually, return to my conservative roots.

That was also in the ‘80s and early ‘90s when life was simpler and more balanced: when “gay marriage” was still an oxymoron; before triggers and safe spaces, the internet, social media, doom and gloom “climate change,” and legalized pot; before we had an alphabet of sexualities to choose from and the ability to change sexes; before blended families became the norm; before hatred became the quintessential reason for all of society’s ills.

Not all teachers and professors were proselytizing progressives, the media was less corrupt, and your politics were not a factor in getting or retaining a job.  Because of the deep societal changes since then, not every Millennial or Gen Xer has the wherewithal, the background, or the backbone to recognize and then punch back against the forces of propaganda, fess up to and toil with their own ignorance, or simply engage in respectful debate with those who have another point of view — no matter how steeped in conservatism their childhood.

I am not suggesting we stop lecturing our children about competing points of view, stop teaching them to be skeptical about what they learn in school or from their peers, or stop challenging the false orthodoxies they are barraged with on virtually every topic from sexuality to climate, energy to food, and national security to border security.  We should continue to bang the drum.  We must.  And we must remain hopeful that someday those we lost will return to the conservative fold because they see the wisdom of conservative principles.  But for all of you young parents out there who think you’ll do better than those before you, be prepared for disappointment.

The conservative path is littered with the bodies of well-intentioned parents who are devastated when their formerly straight kids come out of imaginary closets, transition to the opposite sex, or demand to be called “they”; when their Jewish Day School educated children announce their support for the BDS movement; when their evangelical  children support blatant infanticide; when their happy, well-adjusted kids go off to college and return believing weed is innocuous, struggling with drug addiction, or suffering from mental illness.

These cultural maladies affect liberals and conservatives alike, but are unusually bitter pills for conservatives to swallow because they are packaged in a lifestyle and value system antithetical to everything we teach our children — resilience, pride, integrity, honesty, open-mindedness, self-reliance, individuality, taking responsibility for our actions, doing right when we screw up, and teaching a man to fish.  Liberals cast us as hypocrites whose principles clash with reality, but what they don’t understand is that we believe in taking responsibility for and learning from our missteps so we constantly evolve into better beings (and don’t get mired in unbridled, misplaced hatred and lifelong victimhood).

Secondly, conservative parents are treated by their children with a level of hostility that doesn’t seem to afflict liberal parents with conservative children.  Loving, nurturing conservative parents find themselves catapulted to Holocaust-denier status and demoted to homophobic, intolerant, racist, privileged, religious zealots.  Relics of an oppressive past. It is painful when your kids reject everything you raised them to value. Despise you. Scoff at you. Turn against you. Align with your political foes. Resent you for brainwashing them with yourhateful, 1950‘s agenda.

Now, some of that is typical teenage/young adult angst and rebellion.  When frontal lobes are soothed by the right combination of hormones and our insecure little monsters segue into more confident adults, those nasty side effects often dissipate. But much of the antipathy they are exposed to is encouraged by “the man” in the liberal camp — we’ll call him “the burning man.”  He instructs us to hate authority, hate anything established, hate tradition, hate the moral code you grew up with, hate anyone who is white or successful, and hate those who embrace any of this. Hence, hate your parents.  Hate your old neighborhood.  They are the problem.  And while today all you have to do is oppose them, someday you might have to actively go against them, even “turn them in.” The burning man says this is okay because you are right and the end justifies the means. I’m not being paranoid. Our entire educational system is based on appropriating the minds of our children and undoing all they have learned at home, turning them into weapons of mass societal destruction in the burning man’s toolbox.

We have all participated in holiday dinners and family vacations ruined by dissension and door-slamming.  Family harmony devolves into family discord, function into dysfunction, and closeness morphs into estrangement.  Parents are instructed to just shut up already! Politics and religion are off the table.  Dinner conversations revolve around silly cat videos and trivial drivel.  Soon there is little left to discuss.  After all, everything is political now — from your sneakers to your bus commute during Pride Month.

Once upon a time, we could fall back on cultural interests like music, movies, theater, travel, and sports to avoid potentially explosive conversations at family gatherings about politics and religion.  Now, virtue signaling is so ubiquitous that everything seems to fall into the Realm of the verboten.  It becomes more and more difficult to find common ground.  Constructive input I like your haircut and simple questions Did you decide on a major?  What are you doing for break? How do you like your job? are potential triggers.  Family get togethers are so contentious there is an increasing tendency to minimize interactions.  Even life’s big “hatching, matching, and dispatching” events are often fraught with tension — relatives who couldn’t be seated together because of some family squabble are now separated because one has a worldview the other finds detestable.

Some parents give in. They don’t want politics or values to stand in the way of their relationships with their kids, so they re-visit their Weltanschauung.  Constant pressure from your 20-year-old bubelah goes a long way towards re-educating Mom and Dad. Senator Rob Portman was against gay marriage until his son came out and then… he evolved.  I’d rather fight than switch is a paean to another time.

This is nothing new.  Many parents drank the Kool-Aid and became part of the 60s counterculture their children brought home.  Ironically, many of their hippie children became yuppies and did the unthinkable — morphed into their conservative parents.  Hmm.  I suppose we can be clear-eyed about the transformative societal and political forces pulling our children away from conservatism, at the same time we cling to the hope that our liberal progeny will switch and fight for conservative principles and maybe even cling to their bibles and the Constitution, too.”

Wish I could have said it like that!

Comment by DOC DURACOAT August 3, 2019:
All you people should move to Boca Raton, Florida! Our public high school has been rated A for the last 10 years straight. We have a very active ROTC program, and it is routine to see these kids in the halls wearing military uniforms. The flag is respected, everyone stands for the pledge of allegiance, even the minority students. Graduation rates and college acceptance rates are very high.

Discipline is enforced, disrupting class is not tolerated. My kids and their friends all graduated as sports playing, modest dressing, great conservative kids. Come on down and bring your guns and bibles! Your kids will graduate with a great education and strong conservative moral values.

Being Friendly Matters

I used to be cheerful and friendly with everyone I encountered, not just my friends and family. But now I find it far more difficult, especially being friendly to those with whom I vehemently disagree.

It’s hard to be friendly to hypocrites who are constantly virtue signaling. They drive hybrid cars and only drink organic, humanely grown free range coffee or fully rain forest alliance certified tea (this is a real label I saw on a box recently!) from their local barista. They gather in klatches in their yoga pants with oversized sunglasses griping about what they’re having to pay for their childrens’ tutors and piano teachers while squeezing lemons over their avocado toast.

It’s hard to be friendly if you’re an old white guy, thus automatically the beneficiary of white male entitlement and by extension, immediately viewed with suspicion as the enemy. In the bastions of the politically correct you’re the product of white privilege and therefore what you have wasn’t earned but confiscated from minorities and various victims. Oh, and did I mention you’re also a racist, by definition?

It’s hard to be friendly when everything you believe in and stand for is constantly trashed and all the drivel spilling forth from people’s mouths is accepted by so many around you with understanding nods and agreement.

It’s hard to be friendly when so much of what Hollywood produces celebrates aberrant, uncivilized or downright evil behavior, behavior which viewers slow and gawk at like the accident by the side of the road but can’t help themselves, and then wonder why their children’s language is what we used to call that of a drunken sailor!

It’s hard to be friendly when you hear Leftist sound bites and talking points repeated continuously, no matter how outrageous the lies and deceit. From an educated but typical Leftist neighbor in our community I recently heard repeated the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez “concentration camps” label given to the southern border detention centers. As much as I would have liked to pleasantly smile and gently try to explain how ridiculous that charge is, I stifled my revulsion and maintained a blank expression. I regret not speaking up.

But that’s the problem. Traditionalists care about being friendly. The Left doesn’t care what labels they apply to others with whom they disagree, how condescending, how insolent, how rude, how impolite, how uncivil, how discourteous or disrespectful. They don’t care about being kind at all. They revel in being rebellious – they actually think it’s cool (!) and even those who don’t overtly engage in unkind behavior are complicit by their silence and tacit acceptance of such behavior.

On the other hand, yesterday I saw a segment on Fox News remembering Tony Snow, the former journalist and White House Spokesman for President George W. Bush who died from cancer eleven years ago at the too young age of 53. He was quoted as saying something that immediately resonated. I quickly tried to look up the quote but while I found lots of great things Tony said, I couldn’t find the exact words I had just heard, so I’ll paraphrase them as closely as I recall.

You don’t have to donate a million bucks to change the world. A smile and kind word will do just fine.

Once again someone said it far better than I ever could.

In the face of withering Leftist fire, it’s hard to be friendly, but “a smile and kind word will do just fine”.

Thank you Tony!

(Left) Right Before Our Eyes

In 1966 two radical, Leftist sociologists from Columbia University: Richard Cloward and Frances Piven, put forth a strategy for overloading the welfare system to the point where it would precipitate a crisis and cause the government to collapse. It was to be replaced by a socialist system of guaranteed annual income, under the guise of eliminating poverty. Sound familiar?

In 1971 Saul Alinsky wrote “Rules for Radicals” wherein he too advocated overloading the system, except he went beyond Cloward and Piven to advocate “organizing the world”, going so far as to violently overthrow governments if necessary to create the Leftists’ utopian dream.

We have only to look around ourselves to see that Acorn, Antifa, Occupy Wall Street and the myriad other radical “organizations” are manifestations of this “organize the world” strategy. It is the Leftist demagogue’s goal to ensure that the individual, and individual freedom and merit, are eliminated and supplanted with “one world order” that will bring egalitarian peace and prosperity to all.

In fact, history has demonstrated time and again what should be patently obvious: that Leftist/Utopian/One World Order visions only accelerate the destruction of great civilizations.

We see many more examples of this cancer in institutions around us today: in totalitarian regimes such as China, North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, Russia (yes, Russia is still totalitarian despite feigning democracy); in globalist organizations such as the United Nations, Organization of American States and European Union that constantly promote collectivism and wealth redistribution;  in so-called philanthropic and policy entities like the World Federalist Movement, the Clinton Foundation/Global Initiative and many similar “one world government” promoters, and in countless Leftist/Social Justice societies, clubs and associations on college campuses and in communities throughout the country. And, astoundingly and regrettably, in courts and schools, and most visibly, in today’s Democrat Party.

How did these beyond-fringe-lunacy to mainstream elected representatives’ rhetoric get a foothold in our great country?

Here’s the crux of the matter. Traditionalists and Conservatives celebrate the individual, self-reliance, independence, freedom and meritocracy. The desire to be left alone, to care for ourselves, our families and loved ones compels us to resist “organizing” the way the Left has. To say the least, way down on our list of priorities is trying to create a collectivist, Utopian society!

Leftists use our value system against us by goading not just the poorer and less fortunate among us but now the entire working middle of our society to protest, to “resist”, thus fomenting class warfare, covetousness, envy and ultimately, to lay the groundwork for extortion. Alinsky’s approach, and that of virtually all “community organizers”, seeks to brain-wash and indoctrinate self-reliant individuals using airwaves saturated with propaganda, and with increasing frequency, to compel compliance with their dogma through the actions of organized mobs inciting violence and mayhem. What’s particularly insidious about this is that the Left couches their rhetoric in emotional appeals to charity and caring for others, of rooting for the underdogs, the “victims”. The hypocrisy is breathtaking!

It’s not complacency that’s allowed this to happen. Ask any hard-working middle class adults whether they see what the Left is doing and whether they care and you’ll get a resounding affirmative answer. The problem is that the productive in our society are too busy being productive and caring for themselves and their families to spend time countering the verbal diarrhea delivered by community organizers in fireside chats at the local library. Thus, Leftist dialogue, what the vast majority of the media spouts and what our eyes and ears a filled with, with the exception of a few conservative/traditional print and media outlets, goes unchecked and unchallenged.

Yes, the majority at our southern border are seeking better lives for themselves. But they are there in large part because of Leftists with sinister objectives, including, obvious to anyone with eyes, the objective of overwhelming the system. Leftist “saviors” predictably swoop in to offer anything and everything while condemning every person or action that would discourage or disallow the wholesale trampling of our sovereignty.

Why? Is it because the Left really cares about these refugees? No, it’s because the Leftists, in a move that would make Cloward, Piven and Alinsky proud, want to overwhelm the system, bring down traditional and conservative economic and societal values so they can create a permanent voting bloc that will allow them to assert control over the compliant masses, and advance their utopian agenda.

Right before our eyes the Leviathan is thus growing, and is moving ever faster to destroy our country’s values – to overload the system. Let us not be frogs in lukewarm water with the flame turned up under the pot. We simply have to carve out more time, more money and more commitment to traditional candidates, agendas, and initiatives, and we must vote at every opportunity even when we think an adverse outcome is certain, or we will end up being boiled alive.

I, for one, am feeling the heat.
